I've no idea really

what this is all about but on Sunday we were asked to launch both boats so that we could take a photographer from the Telegraph newspaper to sea for some photos. He wanted to be taken out in the ILB so that he could get some photos of the ALB in action. It was actually a fairly blustery day so I should imagine he began to wonder whether he had done the right thing at times. Anyway, if you can bear to have a sly glance at the Telegraph this week you might spot a photo of our boys..............I just hope it will be worth the stigma of being caught furtively reading the Telegraph.

"I was delayed, I was way-laid
An emergency stop
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder
Who said lied I'd to her?"

How does it work if you were too get a shout in a situation like this John? And what about as regards to financial contributions? Do the paper agree to make a 'donation' or does the RNLI have a set fee for such occasions, or is it agreed that the publicity resulting from the photographs taken are likely to recoupe costs?

The Article in The Telegraph

Nothing wrong with the Telegraph by the way ;-) Happily be caught reading it. The Mail on the other hand...

Really good article. Very positive write up for the RNLI as a whole and you as a crew. You should all rightly feel very proud of yourselves!

Oh, and good photo's too.

Mart, sorry, i forgot that I was going to reply to your comment. I've been away for a few days over 1/2 term and forgot. We don't generally get any financial contributions from these sort of things. The marginal cost of the launch is minimal, the crew like getting the press and it's all in the rnli's best interest. As for a shout, 'cause we're already launched then our response would probably be quicker than normal. If it was something simple and quick we'd probably take them, anything else and we'd drop them off first.

Mark, I have a general dislike of most newspapers. Don't get me started on the Mail and Mail readers!!
